Well, I have an invite to the new Playboy Club.

Should I go?

Best reason to go - it has an all night Casino.

Best reason to not go - I will be jealous of the Bunnies, who will all be much younger, and a bit sexier, than I am.

But would I have to fight through the ranks of protesting women in comfortable shoes? And whose "rights" are these protesters fighting for? Girls who can earn good money just because they look great, and who choose to do so, hardly need anyone to fight their corner.

Surely the only "clothing issue" that is offensive to women's "rights" is at the other end of the dress scale ... the Burkha, or the Niqab.

Instead of protesting outside the Playboy Club, these women should go and protest outside a Mosque (although they would risk being whipped, I suppose).

Then, I can go and have a game of Blackjack without getting verbal abuse as I enter the club.

I`d go. I would have thought a bunny club is a bit of nostalgia these days. It`s not like there hasn`t been one in this country before. It`s pretty tame really. They should send the protesters off on a plane to Bangkok to visit some of the places I`ve been in. They`d be apoplectic.

My personal take on formalised gambling is that it is a waste of time and money. So I'll always differ from many in this thread. I don't want to stop anyone from gambling, provided (see line 1)

The links between women working in so-called entertainment services, prostitution, and organised crime are demonstrated repeatedly.
I believe people should be able to pursue their lives and interests providing (line 1) is followed.
At the start of the 21st century, who would have believed that women in Britain would be more than ever evaluated on the basis of their appearance.
Young people are bombarded incessantly with images of tanorexic available laddettes and ripped bond-types, and it is a miracle we are not in the grips of a tide of mental illness / body dysmorphia.

I was a Playboy bunny in the 60s in the Park Lane casino. It was a great job and I loved it and I don't ever recall anyone protesting about it all. It seems that now in 2011 people's attitudes are going backwards. Jayne, if you go, have a GREAT evening. Don't be swayed by the "beautiful" bunnies. If they're anything like we were , they will all be "shoved upwards" by a million Kleenex tissues. It was a great place to work, great cocktails and an excellent restaurant. I still have my bunny costume, though I look ridiculous in it now !

Just a short response on the gambling point ...

My view of gambling is that it's okay if you view it as entertainment ... not as a way of hopefully winning money.

I enjoy the atmosphere of Casinos. Although I'm not a smoker, I liked them even more when people did smoke in them. If I go away, I track down the nearest Casino. When I visit my OH (who lives in Switzerland) he knows the weekend will go well if he takes me to the Casino there.

But, you have to view it as £50 of entertainment. Not £50 that you hope to turn into £100, because that rarely happens. Winning is a bonus, but it's not essential.

Unfortunately, the combination of the need to win, the sacrifice of other things to fund gambling, and the curious belief that one can consistently beat the Casino (a belief only held by people who have not seen the houses in which Casino owners live!) has, historically, opened the way for the elements to which you have referred.

So, essentially, I love gambling, and I do it a lot ... but I also have to accept the point you made.

I think you are the first person i have come across, at least on a website, to say something about wearing the Burkha, some women jounalists have been roundly abused for their so called racist views, so good for you. I don't care what the bunnies wear, its up to them, and they get paid for doing it, don't you see women wearing a lot less tottering down any high street of a saturday night, so go bunnies.
As to the right on brigade, tell them to push off. The burkha, niqab, is not something that sits well with me, i find it alien and out of step in Britain, and whether worn freely or not, it is divisive, you rarely see the men in anything but western style dress, so something of a double standard. Go i say and have a great time. I went there years ago with some friends, one who was a member, and never thought it odd, and by the way, it was the Arabs who were the heaviest gamblers, drinkers and womanisers.
