At the school where I pick my grandson up there are 2 entrances but for a few years now the top entrance is closed but the zig zag lines and yellow double lines are still there even though that entrance is never used. Would the yellow lines still be in force if a car was parked there.

We get a permit that allows free parking for school picking up children and most times if you don't get there early there is no room in car park so I just wondered if it would be ok to park there for 5 to 10 mins. I don't need to leave the car .

ok thanks for replies and might just do that Eddie then I won't have to leave so early.
Take care, round this area they have been taking the camera van out and people have been getting there fines through the post.
Of course the police and wardens can issue FPNs without asking you to move first.
Parking on zig zag lines is an 'instant' offence meaning a penalty ticket can be issued immediately and can even be issued remotely, such as by an enforcement camera that has taken a photo of the vehicle illegally parked.
The 'offence' is not parking on double yellow lines but rather contravening a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). If the entrance is no longer in use then the TRO may have been rescinded, in which case you could park with impunity. You check if there is an extant TRO at the Town Hall. (My guess would be that the TRO would still be effective, councils after all are not that quick to react))

Thank you for replies. I made a point of asking the traffic warden . He is never up that end much but he said that as there are no useage for children at that gates as long as I did not park for hours there would not be a problem and I would not be leaving the car anyway as grandson comes up the entry and he will see me and he has no road to cross.
