bought from local garden centre, four feet tall. leaves green with white. All the leaves are now at the end of the branches with the branch from the trunk getting bare. will pruning solve this problem and if so when? if i prune and get nomore leaves I am in real trouble from the purchaser ! _

Have one in our garden, likes moist humus rich soil. Best in sun. We sometimes prune of dead tips and any dead wood in the spring. Keep it well watered and add some well rotted compost around the base. Ours it the standard type that is grafted onto a root stock. Have you had it long, perhaps the soil in this current weather is too dry?l
Has it a lot of competition from other plants/bushes nearby.?
It is Hakuru Nishiki.
Allowed to dry out/drought probably.

Foliage should return next season as long as conditions improve and rest of stems don't die back.
