our neighbours have just had a loft conversion which is almost completed. In the past week we have noticed a lot of noise when they shut doors within the house. Does anyone know if this is likely to stop once the area is carpeted and furnished or is it possible that the sound insulation is not good enough.

Many thanks

There are building regulations to provide minimum standards for building work in the UK. Regulation 'E' deals with the resistance of the passage of sound. Hopefully the builders would have built to this standard. If excessive sound continues after the area is carpeted and furnished it might be worthwhile contacting your local council's Building Control department as they should have the powers to make sure that the minimum standards are met.
