I have a Tecumseh petrol mower that has stopped working. It was running well when it suddnely stopped. I went to restart it but the pull string wont budge. I've taken the cover off to see if it is snagged but it moved fine.On re-assembly it failed to pull again. Any Ideas?

The sudden stoppage along with inability to move the crankshaft via the pull rope is definitely not a good sign.  It sounds as though the engine siezed for whatever reason.  I would take a look at the oil level for some diagnostic inspection.  If it is not reading on the dip stick that might be a clue.  If you take the shroud off the pull rope asembly, you could then attempt to turn the crankshaft to see if it truly is siezed.  Sorry for such good news on Monday...

One other, somewhat more brighter thought... turn the mower over and see if you ran over something with the blade, such as a rope or other material that wound around the blade.  This could account for the sudden stoppage and binding of the engine.  Good luck!

(BTW be sure to disconnect the spark plug lead before trying to move the blade... safety first!)
