Outside tomato plants

I should have added this to my query re my potato plants.

I have 2 lots of tomato plants in a gro-bag outside.

It was kind of hit and miss as I got them from my Mam but one is obviously a plum tomato and the other plant is producing a round tomato.I dont know the variety.

They have been fully formed for weeks.Quite a good yield,sadly they are still green.

Would you be tempted to pick them and take them inside and put them on a windowsill or again am I expecting too much too soon?

You'll guess by now this is my first time with planting out vegetables.

Mine are still green, but I think that's usual, they won't be ready for a few weeks yet.

Leave them on the plants. Mine are only just starting to ripen in the greenhouse. The time to pick them and put inside is just before we start to get night frosts, so plenty of time yet,

Early days yet - keep watering them and they still have plenty of growing time, and warm weather is forecast which will help them turn colour when they are ready.

I did wonder if I was a bit premature but being a novice I thought they should have turned a little bit red by now.

They've had a reprieve from becoming chutney for the time being :O

Thanks for your replies.Think I got too excited when I actually saw formed tomatoes and then nothing else seemed to be happening!

I'll definitely enjoy them when they ripen.Cant beat homegrown tomatoes for taste.Mam ends up giving them away :O

I have still got green tomatoes this year, buy only this morning I spotted the first red one...Just leave them a bit longer..!

Great alahalf,looks like you weren't convinced like me.Couldn't see you pic but by all accounts they ripened :O)


They'll be glad to know that they still have some nurturing left.Have to say however that i've not been pruning them,which i'm off to do right now.Think that may help as we have the formed fruit, so any stalks I remove will be redundant ones and may let the sunshine in :O)
