raw plugs and funny walls

I am fitting some curtain poles, but the wall I am drilling into wont grip onto any of the raw plugs that I put in; they just turn round and round when I screw the nail in. what can I do?

Sounds like your Rawlplugs are too small - I have poor walls and sometimes have to buy ones with extra bite.

Think Trim's correct. It is important to have the drill-bit, plug and screw all matching.

Its Brick that Im drilling into.. thanks ill look into better plugs. So its RAWL plugs - did not know that :P

I use a blob of polyfiller in the hole then push in the plug.Works a treat.

I find Fischer wall plugs have a better grip than Rawlplugs. Have a look at the illustration here to see what they look like. From any DIY store. The masonry drill size to use is marked on each plug. With the correct size drill hole, the plug shouldn't just slide in, but should need to be pushed in fairly firmly, or even tapped in with a hammer
