How much are your energy bills?

I have just had the following energy bill summary for the past 12 months:

Gas £474-66
Electric £327-45

I live in a 3 bed Semi (slightly extended) with my wife and two teenage kids. I have gas central heating via a combiboiler and a gas cooker. The house has good loft and cavity wall insulation. The kids have TVs in their rooms that always seem to be on!

Are these bills unusually low? I hear horror stories from some colleagues at work who seem to pay much more, in some cases twice as much.

Well they're certainly lower than mine, which come in at about £950 a year, and I live alone.

That's pretty much the same as ours - 4 storey 1860s centre terrace, limited insulation, combi boiler, gas ch, electric cooking.

I don't have gas but my electricity is about £23 per month in summer - 3 bed bungalow but I'm very, very careful.

Much lower than mine and I live in a 3 bed flat on my own! Lucky you!

Jeeeez....In my last house my gas alone was £120 a month.

I live in a 3 bed semi - just me and my partner - our combined gas and electricity bill monthly is £135.00 !!!!

2 of us live in a very large one bedroom flat and our combined gas/lecky bill for the last 2 months was £57...

I pay £195 a month for both gas and leccy....I think I need to move!

We live in 3 bedroomed new build terraced house:

Gas = £50/month to be increased to £60, gas cooker/central heating
Lecky = £30/month to be increased to £34

We've just rec'd letter re the increase in prices but I would say that your bills do seem low compared to ours.

I pay £80 a month but as I've just been told that gas is going up by 18% and electricity by 12% things are not going to improve..........

Well, some good answers there, thanks - I think, overall, i am getting a really good deal. I will stay with EDF for the time being!

Vodkancoke - I think you really do need to move! That's crazy money, I would get your meters checked (unless, of course, you live in a 6 bed mansion with heated pool!)

I pay £140 a month for both - so that's £1680 a year to your £802. I have a 4 bed detached and 2 kids and OH - we both work so house is basically empty half the time. We do however live in Scotland so expect that our heating bills are a lot higher than further south :o( It is a new build too, so will be pretty energy efficient.

You know what they say about kids. They certainly brighten up any home; they leave the lights all the time!

Electricity runs to about £11 a week. Last oil bill was almost £300. I'd guess in total about £1400 a year.

Can I ask if everyone here has CFL energy save light bulbs? I have just worked out that you could have one on all evening and it would only cost you one penny?

I think that Poundland and Home Bargains still have them at their old very cheap price. I think you can get five of them for one pound still.

I use them and they're fine. Take a few seconds to warm up. Perhaps they're saving me a few bob?

Gas (British Gas -PP card) £60 per month but going up
Electric (EDF Direct Debit) £60 per month but going up
2 Bedroom flat turned into 3 bed by using through lounge, gas central heating/boiler, electric microwave/tabletop cooker, three TV's 1 on most of the day, 3 computers, one on all day and 2 on all of the evening, 3 on if son visits, lights left on most of the time.

We're all electric (no gas or oil) and pay £120 per month. There's usually a bit left in credit at the end of the yhear but less likely this year with the increases. We have good insulation and 2 bedrooms.
