DISCONNECTING A GAS COOKER

Hi , does anyone know if I can legally disconnect my own gas cooker when I move ? I believe I have to employ a quallified engineer but my brother in law says I don't .

If it is a self sealing bayonet fixing, then you can disconnect it (and who's to know anyhow). If it isn't, then a professional will need to cap the outlet.
I believe the law also states that it should be fitted back in new house by a certified gas fitter.
just turn the gas off by the meter
