Elk skin rug "shedding" fur

We have recently bought a genuine elk skin rug. It's lovely but .., is shedding it's fur daily. Is there any way to treat this to reduce the fur shedding?

sorry eve, could not resist LOL. Just googled shedding fur on Google and someone said vulcanizing the leather and having a backing attached can help. Lord knows what vulcanising is. But it may make the rug live long and prosper (Star Trek reference for those of you who do not know)

Ummmm daisy no idea how big your freezer is but this won't fit on mine.... It's the full size of an elk / moose !
