HP 1200 series not printing

My printer HP 1200 has stopped printing, it goes through the motions and sounds like it's printing but there's nothing on the paper. I've tried printing from Office and wordpad but nothing. How can I tell if it has run out of ink, as I have been away and no one has noticed the warning that comes up on screen? and how do I know which ink cartridge has run out? Thanks for advice.

Have done a test sheet and the writing is in grey but the windows flag is brightly coloured.
