Anyone got any ideas as to where my stopcock might be located? I've checked in all the usual places...under the sink, in the cupboard, bathroom, outside, but no joy.

Any other suggestions for it's hiding place will be grately received......

ummmm is the resident stopcock expert :-)

mine's under the sink, i think.....
might be worth phoning the water board?
Question Author
I thought about that, but I only want to do that as a last resort, fluffy x

BTW, I've asked my neighbour and she was clueless. "What's a stopcock" was her response, followed by a blank look wheh I told her.
near an airing cupboard if the water tank is there?

If you are in an upstairs flat it is just possible it could be in the flat below this happened to us once...the shopkeeper switched off our water accidently
Question Author
I don't have a water tank, but you could well be onto something RE the neighbour. It's all self contained flats and I'm the upper home.

I'll ask them when I get home. It seems strange that they could turn off my water though. What if there was an emergency and they were on holiday? :|
Airing Cupboard where your Tank is located seems the most logical !
we dont have a stopcock that looks like a handle. Ours is on main pipe where it enteres property and its just a screw that we turn with a screwdriver.
It sometimes happens in conversions that are done by amateurs...a self contained property should have its own stopcock.... the point where the pipes come up into the property is another place to start looking behind a washing machine is also likely
Question Author
Thanks red, I'll have a look for that type of set up when I get home too x

It's definitely not converted property, new build around 20ish years old.

I checked behind the machine too. Truly baffled :(
Mine is behind my washing machine, very awkward as I am incapable of moving said machine these days :/

We have a seperate one to just turn off the hot water, that one is a bright red wheel and is beneath the hot water tank in the airing cupboard.
Question Author
I have 2 red wheels where my central heating boiler is. A red wheel under my sink that stops water running to my washing machine when I need to and that's it. Nothing else along the bottom of any of the kitchen walls, nothing outside, not in a little box affixed to any of them. No hatch under my front door that it could be hidden in. Not in the only cupboard in my house. I've bought batteries for my torch to have a look in the loft tonight, but my money's on it not being in the loft.
Question Author
And not in the bathroom either. There *is* a handle in there beside the toilet, but it seems to be just stopping my toilet refilling, nothing else.
Is your Flat Privately owned or does the Council or Housing Association own the Block you live in. Ask the Landlord to send Plumber round
Question Author
I own the property but some of the others are tennants. Of course, me being me, I didn't have a clue which housing association owns the other properties, so I called them all until I found who managed them. I asked for the clerk of works who was as useful as me and doesn't know. :o(
