any kitchen fitters out there, have just been in to see our neighbours new kitchen and they have a full length fridge next to the double oven which was always a no no in our books but they were told there is better insulation nowadays, what do you think

Fine, Fishers .............. did just that only recently :o)
Yes .. can do almost anything these days .. apart from putting sockets over sinks!
My friend has a socket over the sink :-/
Insulated or not, surely the freezer will still have to work harder if the air it is trying to release heat into has been raised to a higher temperature because the oven/hob has warmed it. Whilst I may not know the extend of the affect, personally I'd not put them together.
ummmm, your friend would be well advised to get an electrician to take that socket out. Hopefully it isn't the result of a 'professional' job. There are rules about how far from a sink a socket can be.
