Hi, can anyone help with this. My daughters fridge is not getting very cold. The thermostat is turned up to maximum, but makes no difference. Have looked to see if drainage hole is blocked, but thats OK. The freezer is working Ok, that works from a different thermostat. Food in the fridge is going 'off' its that 'warm'. Any advice gratefully received, Thanks.

not a hotpoint by any chance?
Sounds like it's time for a new fridge to me.

Don't think so. Daughter has had it about 4-5 years now, and not been any problem til now.

D97x7, thats what we are hoping its not..... just wondered if there were any other reasons why it should suddenly go wrong
Sounds like a Fridge Thermostat problem so a replacement is necessary

Is that an easy thing to do Redman41?
If you are not familiar with doing repairs it would be best if you got an experienced Domestic Appliance repair man in to do the job.
Ask around for recommendations.
Steer clear of those who ask for large call out fees and go for the local recommended repair man.
Has she tried just defrosting it overnight?

Thanks for that advice Redman. Will have a look in the local paper and see if there are any electrical repairers.

No JJ, but there is no build up of frost anywhere. But I guess she could still try that, thanks.
Before attempting thermostat fix, check to see if, when you open the door to either the frige side or the freezer side, the circulating fan is running. This will be, of course, when the compressor is running. Listen for it.
Here in the U.S. (all fridges work about the same) the cold air generated by the compressor process enters only the freezer side, but is then moved by way of a circulation fan to the fridge side. The "door way" thorugh which the cold air moves is controlled by a modulating motor connected to a lever that opens and closes the door responding to demand. This little motor fails and the door won't open, hence the freezer side will be cold, the circulating fan will run, but cold air won't reach the fridge side.
Alternately, the circulating fan may be inoperative, so if the compressor is running and you don't see or hear the fan running when you open the door, that may be the culprit...

OK Clanad, we will try that too. Thanks.

Are you sure it is set to coldest, not warmest?

'er indoors makes that mistake, thinking 1 means one degree
