I'm looking for a reliable plumber with the relevant qualifications to fix my boiler. A card came through the door with a plumber's number. It says he is City and Guilds qualified. Is that enough, or is there a specific qualification for boiler repairs.

What Area do you live in?
A plumber would also need to be registered with Corgi before he touches any gas appliance, this a legal requirement. You need to be looking out for a heating engineer, not all plumbers can deal with boilers.
No he needs to be Gas Safe registered....check them out on the GS register and ask for references.
Depends on the fuel, Notters.

HETAS for solid fuel, Biomass etc
GAS-SAFE (formerly CORGI) for gas
Unless there's been a recent change .............. no particular requirement for oil
What Ratter means about "Corgi" is now "Gas Safe"
Ratter.........Corgi went out before Tony Blair!!
I didnt know that, so Tony Blair is out!!!?
;)

It says "Glow worm Compact Electronic" on my boiler, but it is gas. It doesn't say "gas safe" on the plumber's advert, which is a shame because it says "family business for 30 years" which sounded good. Do you think they would've put "gas safe" on the advert if they actually had that certificate? I live South East Essex.
Google the Gas Safe site, Notters. You can look for the ones in your area to see if he's listed.

Thank you Builder and thank you all. I have looked at Gas Safe thing as you recommended. And I have just found Trustatrader, that looks good, is that reliable, do you think?
I'm afraid I honestly couldn't say. I've never come across it. It rather depends on their vetting procedure.
I always advise people to get recommendations. Another thing I often say on here, is to ask on the counter at a local Plumbers' Merchants. They'll know who's good and reliable.
