There are some street lights but far away so not too great. The plan is to have mains powered garden lights when the garden is landscaped but until then I need a temporary light source over the dark winter nights. When I get closer to the house I have PIR light so that should pick me up, but by the car and steps nothing. I think my head torch will come in useful :)
They usually come fitted with cheapo low capacity (600/800mAh) re-chargeable batteries fitted. I fitted mine with Energiser 2400mAh batteries instead and it's made a world of difference. That said, rechargeable batteries don't work well in freezing winter temperatures, and to protect them, some advise bringing the lamps indoors in the dead of winter. Also, the low angle of the sun at this time of year means they won't charge nearly as much as in the summer months.
