Listed building
3 Answers
I have a grade II listed building- which is an ex-bank. The front of it is Victorian, ornate carved stone, which is great, but since it is on the main road, is very dirty indeed and look almost derelict from the outside. I can't afford the 1500 to have it specially cleaned, and wondered whether there would be any grants available for listed buildings. It would also benefit the High Street, I feel, by looking nice!

Some of the buildings in our area have been sand blasted to clean them up and this has really spoiled their charm and character. They now look too clean and most residents have now decided to leave well alone. Perhaps there's a middle ground however, a more gentle technique that won't leave a beautiful old house looking like a new house!
speak to your council Conservation Officer, if they are any good they will advise you on the best solution.
