Is this your first house? I found it a bit hit and miss when I first did this. Is it possible to return the curtains to Dunelm Mill and change them for a wider pair? Alternatively you could hang one pair at one side of the window and buy another pair for the other side, if they are hung right they should match and the folds in the fabric ought to disguise the fact that you have two pairs at each side or sew two together. If you can change them take the measurments for the drop and the width with you and ask one of the assistants in the store or advice, I found them very helpful when I bought curtains for a house we were renting.
Measure the width of curtain pole, not the width of the window.....I like my curtains quite full so if it's a 6' window each curtain should be 7'6" wide (2½ widths).
Normally, I would measure width of windows, then add 50% (minimum) to width of window for width of your curtains, this allows for your curtains to ahng and fold properly in your windows. I.E width of window + width/2 = curtain width
I like to double the width, for nice folds.
Window 6 ft wide, then buy curtains each 6ft wide.
Take care at Dunelms! They sold my daughter two pairs of curtains for two windows in the same room and the patterns didn't match!!!
this might help for the future, but definitely 1.5 x window width as minimum.

might help if I posted the site, eh.
