First of all....do i need a joiner or a kitchen fitter? Average cost of this job?? there is 6.5 metres to fit. Basically an "L" shape (that has hob and round sink) and a straight forward piece on other side of kitchen?????

TBH you don't need either - if you are fairly handy, it's easyish (you might need to hire the right tools though) if not a "handyman" will prbably do it
No need for a joiner. A kitchen fitter would be best. He would be familiar with how things fit together. He'd also have the right tools to make the cuts to fit the tops together, and the cut-outs.
The existing tiling could also be affected, especially if the new top is thicker than the existing.

Ask around for names of kitchen fitters (neighbours, local kitchen retailers). One decent carpenter/fitter is all you need. He'd need to look at it to give you an idea of cost.
Good point, Bednobs. I was going to suggest a handyman, but he would have to be confident of the machining etc.

to be honest my fella wants to do it but hes not confident on that (butt and scribe?) and his backs not so good these days!! Thankyou for replies xx
Well I reckon Mark should have a go. If he goes to one of the big Hire Centres, he can rent a router and a thing called a worktop jig. It's a template thing with lots of holes and cut-outs for different jobs. One will be for the scribe joint you need. It might have instructions with it. If not, there's probably a Youtube showing how it's done.
Check out the Youtubes first to get an idea.

The best part is that he can practise on one end while the top is still in one piece. If it doesn't work, he can move along and try again. As soon as the cut is right, then cut the other end to length..............

Tell him I said he can do it :o)
a carpenter, kitchen fitter or joiner could do it in an hour! but are the tiles above or behind the bit you want changed?
Question Author
thanks again guys !!! the tiles are going to be tiled over (by Mark) with metro tiles.
Question Author
tiles are above cath!!
