This seemed more appropriate than the shopping category, I hope you'll agree.

I bought some cropped jeans with "deliberate rips" in them.  (I'm not a fashion victim, they were the only ones that fitted me and didn't have glitter on them, or a gross belt glued on!!!).  Anyway - like the wally I am, I've stuck my foot through the ripped bit, and now, instead of "cool tears", I have a bit fat hole in my jeans leg.  I was thinking of using Wunderweb (sp?) to join the two halves of the stringy bits together again, but then I realised the wunderweb would get through the gaps and wreck the iron.  Any other ideas?  They weren't the cheapest jeans ever and i really like them, except for the hole that looks silly, so I want to fix them! :-)

Thanks!

can't you sew a decorative patch on?

Would ruin the look I was going for.  Plus it's a pretty big hole.  I deliberately wanted plain jeans.  The rips were the most decoration I would "accept" so to speak!  I did try to say above that I didn't want ones with decoration on them.  Thanks for the idea though crisgal! :-)

Wunderweb is not the way to go acw as you are quite right it can open up & ruin an iron (speaking from experience) all I can suggest it trying to sew from the inside (in matching thread) in very very small stitches trying to take in as much of the raggy edge as poss. After you are happy with the repair trim off the raggy white therads.

I would guess that once you have them on no one will notice!!

Thanks Tiggster.  I was hoping for a non-sewing answer, but I think I was being over-optimistic!!!  :-p
betterware do a powder that you sprinkle on and then iron over and it turns into a kind of glue. I don't know what it's called I'm afraid but I bought a tub years ago for my son's school pants.

Crisgal - was that in the USA?  I'm in the UK.  I think Betterware might be a catalogue here. Hmmm.  Thanks though! :-)
Surely covering the iron soleplate with a throwaway piece of cloth would do.  Tie it on, do the job, then discard.  The heat will still get through, or you could turn it up a bit.

But if I use wunderweb, it might end up with a sandwich gluing together both front and back of the trouser leg AND the scrap material.  So i suspect any sort of ironing trick won't work.  Hmmm - good job i'm going home to see Mummy at the weekend.  I know you guys are offering sound advice, but I tihnk it needs someone to look at it properly.  And don't worry - I will get the lecture about buying something with holes and rips in it!!! :-p

acw, Mum's know best, she'll sort you out with those tricky little stiches (and an ear bashing!!!!!)

Aaaahh! Better luck next time.  What about a pair of trendy shorts? Bye bye.
