Caravan awnings - quick lock pads

Just wondered if anyone uses these and if you have had a problem with them. We went out for the day today, came back and it had been blowing well, andfound 4 of my 5 roof poles on the floor. They were still attached to the quick lock pads, but these pads had sprung off the secondary awning cord. Thing is that they were still done up very tightly. Any ideas please? Is there an inherent fault in the design etc.?
