Hi, We've moved into a flat that has white painted walls, only been in here a couple of weks but have got a few marks here and there. Has anyone got any idea how to get rid of them? I've used some detergent on one but its taken the paint off as well! please help! Thanks!
I assume that the paint is emulsion. Put some neat Stardrops on a cloth and rub the mark with a circular motion, but gently, starting in the middle and working your way to the edge of the mark. If that doesn't do the trick, try Cif.
My suspicion would be that you either hide them behind something or repaint the walls. If the previous owner left, left-over paint anywhere you may be able to touch the marks up without it sticking out like a sore thumb.
I bet the landlord had the walls painted in "contract emulsion". This paint is designed to be used on new plaster, it has no chemicals or additives in it, so it allows any moisture still in the substrate to pass through the paint film. I would look at repainting the walls with some vinyl emulsion, as you're not going to get rid of the marks.
BTW, landlords use this paint because it's cheap...About £14-00 for 10lts.
You can get eraser sponges from aldi and if you don't have one near you try a hardware shop. They are great you just put water on it and rub gently. They should come off.
