I planted thirty sunflower seeds a few weeks ago and they have all germinated and are growing beautifully. Can I risk transplanting them now? They have been outside for the last few days and all have at least six leaves on them.
Don't quite know where I'm going to put them all. Can they be planted in groups.
Also when will it be safe to put out my Morning Glories?
your ahead of me with the sunflower seeds, I have promised my little boy we will plant the seeds today, even though i was thinking ive left it late.
As for your question, i would plant them in singles as they need a bit of space, and dont forget to get some canes, they will shoot up!
Thanks for the link, boxtops. I love the colours.
I've never grown them before but my mum used to have them growing in the lean-to at home.
They will be a reminder of her.
Thanks for all the tips. Didn't know about the slugs and snails. Don't seem to have many of them in my garden.
They are giant ones, so I will dot them around the garden. This might be a really daft question but do they have to be planted in full sun or can I put them in shady places? As I said earlier, I have thirty. Does anybody want one?
They love the sun and plenty of it. Once the flowers are mature they often face east(ish) so bear in mind if you plant them along an east boundary they could end up smiling over at your neighbours instead of you :o).
Maybe your neighbours would like any spare ones? Hope they do well for you.
They'll need maximum sun and damp, but not soggy, well drained soil. Of course they'll need something to climb up but I expect you know that. When I grew them years ago I planted them in a very large tub with a wire obelisk. They're lovely plants Milly.
