Halogen/Electric??
11 Answers
I've always cooked with gas until we moved in here & there was an electric oven but a gas hob, but that was ok I've learnt to live with it, however now because of my failing eyesight I've found I've had several accidents (catching fire to myselt) because I can't see it even when the hob is on or not.
Someone recomends I change to a Halogen/electric hob. What is the difference between a Halogen hob & an Electric one? Any recomendations for me? and would it be a good idea to change to electric? before I part with
my money?

Jem, i wouldn't. Halogen hobs can be hot enough to weld you to the hob or set fire to clothing and not show a sign of it at all, even without failing eyesight. The difference between them and a standard electric hob is that they heat up faster.
I have never had one, but maybe an induction hob might be safer for you because they only heat in the presence of magnetic...

This induction hob is suitable as it has rotary controls rather than the difficult to see touch controls.

Mmm!! hc43 It was so kind of you to research this for me & yes I agree the hob in the clip is ideal but I found the price is out of my league... Over £400 is
way OTT for me.
We've just got back from the local Retail Park & we saw a 'Prestige E hob' we felt would be suitable, the salesman said if we buy within 24 hours he will arrange free fitting (£50) so with that carrot left dangling in front of us we may very well go back tomorrow & buy that baby (£225).
If anyone else has any comments I'll be glad to hear them.
Thankyou all.
