Trouble with Next Door
10 Answers
My neighbours (adjoined to my semi) have been unsociable to us since we moved here. There have been many problems and we are going to move as we've had enough. When we sell, are we duty bound to inform any prospective buyer what these neighbours are like? We have never made an official complaint about him, as we knew we did not want to stay here shortly after moving in.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.you have to be honest, but what I would say is "They tend to keep themselves to themselves... We don't really have much to do with them." That would explain them being unsociable, without saying they are nasty people. If they HAVE been nasty though, rather than just unsociable, it is better to be honest.
just because the neighbours dont speak doesnt mean they are antisocial..i dont speak to mine because we have had a lot of problems with them regarding noise and recently they rotavated my flowers up on the front garden..and i know their are two sides to every story but we are quiet and would never dream of rotavating anyones flowers up or pounding stereos through walls..so i guess we dont speak as we dont associate with people that behave like that..some people do keep themselves to them selves i guess i like my privacy and like to choose who i associate with..if the neighbours have been noisy then you are obliged to say when you sell but if they dont speak well thats their choice...
p.s...i am not really antisocial i just wasnt bought up to behave like our neighbours..we were allways decent and didnt make a nuisance of ourselves ..tetherend i am jealouse you are moving as i have to wait 35 months to escape..i count every day off..still our neighbours do their thing and we do ours i cant say we have done anything to them at all..except complain occasionaly it would be nice to have a neighbour to say hello to and hope they look out for burglars when i go out but thats life i am unfortunate not to have decent neighbours..i allways look if i hear a noise when they are out so i do my duty even though its not returned..oh well hope you get a good move...
tetherand...sorry if i sounded antisocial i know you tried to help me when my plants got hacked by sending me to the nfh site..he came back and hacked some more and i have removed whats left until i get the fence put down the middle hopefully this week..we have a large house and only live in two rooms as far away from the neighbour as possible..after reading on the nfh site i dread moving as their are some horrors out their i really wish you the best..
Don't be daft oxeye, I know you were trying to help. Hope you found the NFH site supportive. The moron next door has been doing something very similar, so my thoughts are with you too. It beats me why folk have to be so bad to each other. Maybe we should move our families next door to each other, at least we'd show each other some respect!
when we sold our house three years ago and had a solicitor to deal with all the stuff, we were sent a form first of all listing items we would be leaving at the property. After all these questions, another asked about any neighbour disputes/problems. We had very noisy neighbours at one point (parties with loud music every weekend going on till 2am and beyond) but it improved dramatically when we got in touch with our local noise abatement department. We had to be honest and wrote down all of this. We were told this was a legally binding form. Its probably best to speak to the solicitor dealing with your sale when it comes to that point. hope the sale goes through quickly for you!
tetherend..if you have never made an official complaint then i wouldnt say anything..my daughter bought a small house and her neighbours were in their 50s their family had gone..anyway to cut a long story short they slammed doors blared stereos my daughter hated it but she was out at work all day so she only had to put up with it at night and weekend..well my daughter sold it to a young couple and she moved to a larger house only two streets away..and she sees the young couple who she sold her house to at the play group..and they love her old house..with no mention of the old people next door making noise..so it could be you could sell your house to someone who can tolerate the neighbours you have..i also intend to have the last laugh as my house will be sold when we vacate it and as its so large it will attract a large family..and my noisy neighbours family is slowly leaving one by one ..so they are in for a rude awakening..you will never sell it if you reveal details just say you keep yourself to yourself..sell up and find some peace..
