Moths?
14 Answers
Discovered a small piece of carpet under armchair completely bare!Googled carpet moths and think that could be the cause. Any suggestions on what to do now would be very welcome. i believe moth balls, cedar wood balls, lavender can be used but I'd appreciate advice from someone who has experienced this problem. Thanks for any feedback.

Moth larvae - Very difficult to get rid of. Moth balls smell awful. And this will only stop future moths. You will have to find the little devils who are busy eating your carpet and to do that you will have to go all over the carpet. Might be easier to get a new carpet, as Euphemia says, and get it treated before you put the furniture back, just in case there are any more hanging around. I think they probably only eat woollen carpets and not stuff like nylon which is man-made, but I am not sure of my facts here. You might be able to google it, or I am sure there are lots of experts on AB who will tell you.
I've suffered from this really badly this year and have bare patches in a lot of rooms. It was carpet beetles rather than moths (the beetles look like tiny black and grey ladybirds and their pupae like very large grains of paper rice). We had to get some spray (from amazon) and treated every room but I wish I'd checked earlier what the little beetles on all the windowsills were.
Hi Prudie, your description of the pupae makes me think it might be carpet beetles and not moths as there was stuff like that on the carpet. The question now is are they difficult to treat? I'll definitely get a new carpet at some point.Thank you RATTER15 for your advice. Does it still hold good for the beetles?
