did they take a sample? In my opinion it should be gone by now if the ab's were going to work
Yes if they are the correct antibiotics it would have gone within 24 hours. I used to get cystitis bad and I was prescribed Trimethoprim it was excellent, not sure what you have been prescribed but if I was you go back to the doctors. Its pure misery so you have my sympathy lindseykav xx

hi yes they took a sample and it showed infection and blood, they perscribed me trimethoprim 200mg, one in the morning and one at night, x
A lot of UTIs are Trimethorprim resistant now and some GPs don't bother prescribing it any more.

Nitrofurantoin would probably be your best bet.
what generally tends to happen is that they start ab's speculatively, then when the results of the sample are back, change them to an ab that is good for whatever bug you have. It sounds like the second bit hasn't been done - contact GP in morning
Trimethoprin is the drug of choice in these conditions and clearly shoul;d be working by now.

I agree with NoMercy, see you GP in the morning, as a change of antibiotic may well be necessary.

thanks for your help, he only did the dipstick test and that was it, but i did think it should be starting to ease a bit by now xx

thanks for all your help i will give them a ring in the morning x
Has nobody mentioned drinking cranberry juice?? It has been a recognised help for years and I speak from personal experience.

no they haven't but ill give it a try thankyou xx
Sorry to butt in here on this ladies discussion but my wife used to suffer a lot. She now takes one high strength cranberry tablet a day which we buy on the net (Healthspan). Seems to work. There are also remedies in powder form which you can buy in chemists to start you off.
A cheap and very good remedy is just a soak in a salt water bath for twenty minutes. Or `Caneston` as advertised a lot on TV.
i don't understand how that would help bill. Perhaps you are thinking about thrush rather than cystitis? Cystitis (or inflammation of the bladder) is usually caused by a bacterial infection and canestan is anti-fungal

Thanks everyone, spoke to the doctor this morning and it appears the infection is now in my kidney, got some different antibiotics and had a sample sent of for more testing, will look into the cranberry tablets johnny Thankyou
