I have set up an 'Excel' spreadsheet to help with solving these puzzles.  By using the 'conditional formatting' you can highlight the background cell colour, which makes the solution easier. I've also totalled rows, columns and 3x3 cells to give another clue.  Takes me about 5 mins to solve.  If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet, e mail to [Email address removed as per site policy. - AB Editor]

But that'd take all the fun out of it surely, what with the extra clue formatted in ???

The enjoyment comes from successfully completing a puzzle using your own skill and logic.

Whilst using a spreadsheet does take the fun out of it, I have found a spreadsheet useful to do all the tedious stuff for the more difficult problems.  I can then concentrate on the 'key' part of the sudoku puzzle that is needed to complete the solution.

Programming a spreadsheet also helps you think about the methods used to solve the puzzles, but I'm not sure using someone else's spreadsheet really helps in this respect.
