I'm sitting in my lounge with no central heating on in the house, no hot water has been used since this morning and my gas boiler fires up and stays on for about 5 minutes.
Can anyone tell me why please? I'm trying to save money.
Do you have a anti-frost setting on the boiler, if so it may have dropped to a low enough temp to trigger that.... if so (unless you live in the arctic) you may want to adjust it a bit.
check the thermo on your hot water system -if its turned up too high the boiler will be turning on to keep it at that temperature -turn it down and the water will be cooler in your taps but you will save money -
we have an oil fired combi boiler and it has two thermos -one for hot water actually behind the boiler cover and one for CH which is digital on the wall. Our boiler was firing up willy nilly during the day when the CH was off and sooting up and the Plumber said it was because we had the hot water too hot and turned it down -sorted!
Sounds like the needle valve is stuck. The boiler thinks that hot water is being drawn and fires up, Because hot taps are off boiler shuts down in a min or so.
