Hello

I have decided to buy myself a dishwasher and get the sink and draining board in the kitchen taken out and a tiddly sink put in instead.

Is this a good idea ?

where are you going to get a tiddly sink?
you'll regret not having a draining board and you can't put everything in the dishwasher.

I thought you lived by yourself? I can't see the point in a dishwasher for one, you'll take to long to fill it
(i had one in my last house, only ever used it if i had friends round)
Do you have a full sink or an inset one at the moment? Personally I think is a bad idea anyway.
get a mini worktop style dishwasher istead
I have a dishwasher and a double sink with a draining board on top...I couldn't manage with a small sink in the kitchen but I cook and bake for a living.
I only use my Dishwasher on Sundays. Far too expensive to run just for the two of us. Plus, having your sink taken out and a non standard one put in will cost you a few bob wolf. I wouldn't do it. What if your Washer breaks down and you need to hand wash some clothes?
No its not
Dishwasher never get your dishes as clean as handwashing
Look I'm all for taking the easy way out - as we all know my motto is why cook when Dominos deliver - but really how hard is washing up

I have one and a half sinks - one is usually full of dishes and pots. I do live alone but I am not very house-trained. At my age it is unlikely that this will change.

I have a problem with the taps in my sink and the plumber says that they will have to be replaced so I thought of getting the whole lot done at one time.
i reckon it would be a mistake.
I live alone (but have two dogs) and run my dishwasher about 5 times a week. When we moved to this house, the sink was a tiddly one and one of the first things we did was get a full size one put in. If you haven't got a utility room, you need a full sized kitchen sink with a drainer, believe me. My dishwasher is under the draining board, if you have a full sized sink and drainer, can you not do the same?
Yet I'd say handwashing never gets your dishes as clean as a dishwasher. Don't go for too tiddly wolf, you still need to rinse things before you put them in the dishwasher.
ric ror, it sounds like your dishwasher is faulty, they wash at a hotter temp, using stronger cleaners than your hands would stand, even in gloves.
dishwashers are fine unless you are totally fanatical about cleanliness, in which case you'd be better off hiring a maidservant. But even if you've got one you still need a sink, unless you use nothing but crockery and cutlery in your kitchen. Where would you wash out a paintbrush, for instance? If you normally do that sort of thing in the bathroom basin, fine; but it might be worth drawing up a list of exactly how you use your sink now, and whether it could all still be done with a smaller one.

And don't tiddle in it, it isn't done.
i couldn't manage like that! loads of pots and pans won't go in the dishwasher, plus always handy for tipping out veg or pasta etc into sieve?

also where will you peel veg, wash babies and hand wash clothes?

I really really miss having a dishwasher, but in our rented house there is nowhere for one.

Don't believe people who say hand washing gets dishes cleaner - that's total rubbish. However I wouldn't sacrifice sink and drainer space for one.

If only one or two of you live there, consider a small worktop dishwasher instead.
Definately a bad idea to have a 'tiddly sink' have used these in various places and they are worse than useless.
I don't think it's a good idea. In addition to what others have said you would probably have to replace your worktop too.
I would disagree about handwashing getting the dishes cleaner than the dishwasher. Mine has a short programme that only uses 10 litres of water, takes half an hour and the dishes come out gleaming. I'd hate to be without it.

I have a slimline, there are only two of us but I still run it every other day, sometimes every day as it has a half-full setting on it.

But I agree with others - some things don't go in it and I'd always need a sink and drainer too.
I live alone
I have a dishwasher
I have a full size sink
I have a minute kitchen
I couldn't manage without either of them.
Just have new taps and if your idea is to create more work surface then buy one of those chopping board cover things for the top of your cooker and a bit of laminated work top to put over your sink/draining board area when you're desperate.
