Squirrels

Has anyone noticed that there is just NO acorns this year? The poor squirrels are going to be desperate as there was practically no conkers either.Today they were hoarding holly berries but they also are in very short supply.I feel there is going to be a great loss in the population this year... (feeding them regularly will help)...

If they are likely to suffer fromn starvation then best we eat as many as possible to allow the rest enough food.

We've had at least three litters of squirrels this year and I suspect there was a fourth. The garden is completely overrun with them and I am struggling to find a position for the bird feeders that the squirrels can't reach.
I do take a hard view with the squirrels and if there isn't sufficient natural resources they need to venture further afield or let nature take it's course.

I visited Boston USA a few years ago and very enjoyable it was to ,I forget the name of hotel it was ok but a Kuoni tourist hotel. There was another upmarket hotel close by with a piano player / singer in the bar , on the table were bowls of nuts, proper nuts still in their shells, we filled our pockets, walked to the nearby park and fed the squirrels, there was no hiding them for later they ate the nuts right away.

I have about half a dozen of the little terrors in my garden at work. This is no exageration but so far, they've eaten approximately 10,000 crocus, 10,000 snowdrops, 10,000 winter aconites and 6,000 species tulips.
Everywhere the above were planted about a month ago, there are just holes now. It looks like a scene from a battlefield. I walked round this week and my jaw hit the floor....ive seen squirrels go through bulbs before but never on this scale. It's absolutely devastating.
