does anyone have one, if so are they useful, do the job.
Toying with the idea of buying one, but don't have a lot of space, so it can't be full sized. Any recommendations, ideas would be welcome.

I was dead against getting a dishwasher - didn't think they cleaned dishes as well as I could by hand.

But, I relented and got one a few years ago. Can't believe I didn't do it sooner. How much of my life have I wasted at the kitchen sink!!

Mine's a full sized one, so can't recommend that to you, but it is a Bosch and I've had no problems with it. I'm sure they do a...

We've got one em but there's only the two of use so we only use it after Sunday lunch.....I can certainly live without mine and there's the electricity to consider as well

Mine's a full sized one, so can't recommend that to you, but it is a Bosch and I've had no problems with it. I'm sure they do a half sized version.

do they do pots and pans, and encrusted pie dishes, my pet hate.
We use ours everyday. I'd be lost without it. You can get slim sized ones.
I have had one (not the same model!) for the last 26 years and I would hate to be without. Last time I looked at slimline ones, they were as expensive as a full size model.....so I think you might save space but not money.
If there were just two of us I expect i could manage without.
I shove everything in. Pots, pans, oven dishes etc etc. I find if you use decent dishwasher tablets it makes a difference. Also, I put a special cleaning tab in the empty dishwasher once a month to help degrease and remove limescale.
i'm good at burning things to the bottom of pans and my dishwasher gets them clean no problem!
Question Author
what is a decent dishwasher tablet, and the other thing, is that available at the supermarket?
I am considering getting one but the kitchen is quite small - but my hands are rather arthritic to keep on doing the dishes.
Question Author
any particular make that stands out. Money isn't so much the problem.
Finish all in one, is the best imo.
I've got a dishwasher (but it doesn't fit in the kitchen of our rented house, sob). I used to use the dishwasher tablets from Aldi.
I have conjugal rights with mine. Wouldn't swap her for anything.
I use Fairy tabs, and the cleaning tablet is also Fairy. Just called Fairy Dishwasher Cleaner. They come in packs of 2, and you should find them beside the normal cleaning tabs in the supermarket.

You can also buy little bottles of cleaner that you put in the empty dishwasher instead of the tabs. So whatever you fancy.
If space is tight, would you think of a work-top one? Don't know if you can still get them.
lol @ McM!
i used to use Finish but then tried Daisy ones out of Tesco, they have exactly the same ingredients and quantities as Finish tablets and clean the dishes aswell if not better, the only difference i have found is the daisy ones dont leave the dishes smelling as lemony but personally i dont think this is a bad thing!

think it's not so much the width of the dishwasher as the height, will measure up and do some google searches on cost.
Ta for the advice.
I used a dishwasher for about a year, it was a good make. I found that rather having the arguments about who was going to wash up, this soon extended to who is going to load/unload the dishwasher. No amount of dishwasher freshener or good dishwashing tablets could keep the musty, dirty water smell at bay, that also lingered on the plates etc. I do not like washing up, but I got rid of my dishwasher.
Question Author
no to the work top one, kitchen has just enough space for a rolling pin, unused, and a couple of chopping boards, if i do the lottery and win,
i will buy a big house with a big kitchen and fill it with every gadget under the sun.
Go for it Em.We've got a Bosch and you can get slim sized ones .
Everything comes out sparkling clean .
The only things I don't put in it are crystal glassware or Mothers old bone handled knives .I use supermarket own brand tablets or whatever's on special offer.
