Not sure about the thread but I usually just turn mine down to 12C and leave it to come on as usual according to the timer.
Ditto.
That is what I do as well.
Possibly keep on constant, at 10 - 12C. If heat goes off for 8+ hours overnight in a really cold snap, pipes could freeze.

Thank you both - I'm sure that someone posted that you leave it on constant but I can't remember what number to leave the radiators at
It depends what time of year I go away..............
I you are away for any length of time then you almost need to stand the usual time pattern on its head - the house needs some heat dribbled into it overnight, but can cope OK during the day.

Personally I open all the doors inside the house (so that it all settles down to an even temperature) and either set the controls to 'permanently on' or set up a new pattern of (say) 'on' from 6pm to 8am and a blip 'on' from noon until 2pm.

As Eccles says, setting the main thermostat at about 10-12C is usually about right.

Thank you I think that's what I was looking for

We go away tomorrow for a couple of days and there's no telling what the weather will be like
My theromstaic rad valves have got a frost setting on them.
For just a couple of days I wouldn't do anything more than turn the main thermostat down. I did like Dave's tip of leaving internal doors open, it makes good sense.

The temperatures are not forecast to plummet in the near term.

thank you woofgang
we never change our radiator temperatures, just the main thermostat.
If it's a day or two I can't be bothered to change it. If it's longer then there's a off button.

Thank you both - we are home - set thermostat to 10 and left the radiators on - everything seems ok
