Stags head - dry fur
10 Answers
Hi. I didn't really know where to post this, so apologies if it's in the wrong section.
I have a very large stags head which, due to moving house, I've had stored in my shed for a while.
I've now got it out, with a view to putting it up, but I've noticed it's fur is very, very dry and feels quite brittle. He has been in the family forever, and is really old, so I don't want to attempt to condition him if it will result in any kind of damage.
Does anyone know of any product I could use to maybe condition the fur? I'm thinking there could be something I could massage into him, to take out the dryness?
You don't need to be knowledgeable on taxidermy, but maybe you know of a product that softens fur? I know it's a long shot, but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks :-)

This might help. Although it's designed for dogs I don't think a stag would complain

Mags, Sandy, thank you both very much for the links. I think that was what I was wondering, really. If it would be ok to use an animal product on it. I figure it's exactly the same kind of thing, just without the beating heart!
I think the natural product would be much better. Thank you :-)
Marco, well yeah, that was my original thought, but I don't want him altered - which is what they always want to do to him. He's got a bit of damage to his nose, just from being so old, and on the two occasions I have had someone look at him, they have focused more on repairing that, rather than what I actually want. I like the damage to his nose, it adds more character, and I like that he's not perfect - bit like my nose, right now! lol
