My missus did herself a tortilla wrap yesterday with spicy chicken and salad etc., and for the first time she added a couple of sun dried tomatoes, she said the tomatoes were the foulest tasting thing she has ever had.
Question is this, are they supposed to be eaten straight from the jar or are they supposed to be prepared in some way?
Sundried tomatoes can be a bit of an acquired taste. try Sunblush tomatoes (widely available in supermarkets and delis) which are a bit of a cross between a sundried and fresh tomato and absolutely lush!
You can eat them straight of the jar, or serve together with other Italian antipasti. I often use them in a tomato sauce to add a bit of depth (you can get an interesting taste by combining fresh, tinned, pureed and dried tomatoes in one sauce). I also use them on the rare occasions I bake my own bread (200g of sundried tomatoes to 1 kg flour).
Thank you for your interesting comments, I've just tried one straight from the jar and I have to agree with my wife I think they are bloody awful, however I will give them a go next time I do a pasta dish although it will be a small portion just in case - no point chucking money out the window.
Try the dehydrated ones - soak in hot water for half an hour, and then rinse them (use the soaking water in your stock) Dehydrated mushrooms as well. Bags of taste..
