House Insurance.
Hello, my wife and I retired to Spain leaving our daughter to live in our house (owned by my wife and I),after looking at insurance for the house my daughter has been told by various insurance companies that she cannot have "buildings and contents" insurance together, only contents, and we (as the owners) must take out landlords insurance.
We have no reason to go back to the U.K. and she lives there rent free,obviously paying the bills etc,is there an insurance company she can go to for "contents and buildings" insurance or will I have to pay a landlords insurance...?

It's the owner of the property who needs the buildings insurance and, irrespective of your joint decision with your daughter not to have a formal tenancy agreement, you are still a 'landlord' and the property is not hers. I think you will find that it is a standard proposal question when applying for buildings insurance that the proposer confirms that he/she...

It's the owner of the property who needs the buildings insurance and, irrespective of your joint decision with your daughter not to have a formal tenancy agreement, you are still a 'landlord' and the property is not hers.
I think you will find that it is a standard proposal question when applying for buildings insurance that the proposer confirms that he/she owns the property.
That's why the various companies are saying what they are saying.
I don't see why you need to come back to the UK to fix this - you could buy a policy from a UK company whilst in Spain.

I use Wesleyan in Brum for buildings insurance
I have never claimed - and the premium is £100-200
Good luck for contents insurance on a rented property
I have never found anyone who does it
Your daughter has to do that herself as you cannot insure for something whose loss you cannot mitigate/minimise

and you are not taking rent.....
have you thought of gifting the property to her ?

you qualify for valid potentially exampt transfer
all you have to do is live for another seven years
but then of course you cant eva move back in
and you cant really visit and sleep over
