bought Murphy Richards soup maker.....brilliant..makes smooth or chunky..only takes 20 mins from throwing in ingredients and switching on. Easy clean and makes 4_6 servings...wish I'd bought it ages ago....although I think they've not long been out..

That's what I was wondering Eccles, but if it chops it may be a winner, that's the bit I hate :)

If I bought one it would probably end up in a cupboard keeping the breadmaker company.

Funny, humbersloop... I do all that too... only in the bathroom reading the latest seed catalouge... same general sense of accomplishment though!
Wow, how can someone have a breadmaker and not use it ?
I prefer the Mouli, purely for its ability to extract the additional flavour and in creating texture....not being an outdated techno-dinosaur. those stick liquidisers are good for making a quick soup for lunch or the family, but not for a dinner party.

me too sloopy..only now don't have all the clearing up with pan knives blenders etc...keeps me very tranquil....
I only use the breadmaker for kneading & prooving the dough, I then cook the bread in the oven.
dt, how very dare you, you've never yet eaten any of my soup! My spicy parsnip is a thing of beauty!! ;)

Ah, great idea if you have the time. Breadmaker bread is greeat because you know what's in it, but nothing beats the ability to bake it as you want.
Have you tried making your spicy parsnip with a mouli, sloopy; it may become ethereal or even stellar!
I've looked at them dt, and not gone for one so far, although I do take your point.

A fine sieve with a sharp mesh, a wooden spoon and a nasty attitude works well for me (see above), but does take a bit of time. I do still regard the scotch broth - with full on mutton - made by request for the vegetarian recovering from stomach cancer as a real triumph.

so what spices in your parsnip soup?
all pan toasted first, then fried snugly with the onion and smidge of garlic added- so pestle ground coriander seed, cumin, cardamom, black and pink pepper corns. Black onion seed added when cooking the liquid.

Fresh local parsnips essential, natch.

To make soup in a saucepan you need a chopping board, knife, pan, hand blender. How is that hard to clean up?
We have Thermomix's in the Pro kitchen , too expensive for the home .
I bought one for my OH at xmas, had to get it shipped over, they are brilliant, He loves soups,!
