Money Saving Tips For The Home
31 Answers
We have been in our first home for 7 months now and in that time I feel we have been quite efficient and are getting value for money in terms of bills and services.
However, I am always looking for practical money saving tips to try and have just a little more left in the bank at the end of the month for the odd luxury!
We both run small engine cars
We shop mostly at Aldi
We limit baths and shower most days
Never leave lights on in unoccupied rooms
We only run the dishwasher when it is rammed full
We try to only do a colours/darks/whites wash once each week (never happens though god knows how we generate so much washing!!)
So we are doing the basics perhaps.....

A passing thought, instead of freezing the sausages in bundles of four to make a casserole with, why not cook them all up in a casserole at once and freeze one and eat the other? That's what I often do. About once a month we have a "cook in Sunday" and prepare lots of meals for the freezer, and more or less eat what we've already prepared! It's also ecomonical to buy a larger piece of meat for roasting than a small piece - there's less shrinkage in the cooking and you can freeze the leftovers for another day, depending on the size of the piece of meat I can stretch a roast beef dinner over 3 meals a decent size chicken can provide 2 good dinners and still some leftovers you can also boil up the carcase for stock for soup or a casserole.
