Removing shoes at home

I always take off my shoes at the door of my house. I expect everyone to do the same. Most people see the shoes at the door and my socks and automatically take theirs off. There are some people who don't and they just walk in. I usually stop them after a few steps and say "Oh we dont wear shoes in the house" Then they will stop apologize and quickly take theirs off. Do you take your shoes off at home and do you require guests to do so as well?
