Fan Heater

Hi everyone, i hope I have this in the right section. I bought a new fan heater, which was very good. After several hours use, I unplugged it, and took the plug out of the socket. I found that the pins on the plug were extremely hot. I was really scared of using it. A few days later I took it back to the shop for a refund. Later, I bought another different fan heater, but also found that the pins were very hot on this too.
Is this normal? dangerous? Does anyone know please?

Plug something else (e.g. a lamp) into the socket. If the lamp plug pins are hot, have the socket checked by an electrician.

I'm not sure about dangerous, but I've found plugs get hot if you leave them in switched on too long. What did the leaflet in the box tell you about this?

I have thrown the box away for the first heater, but I will look in the box of the second one. I tried the first heater in a second socket, and it was still hot. Thanks for both your replies x

Hi boxtops, there is no info on the amount of time the heater should be left on

if its a 3kw heater it will get hot if its been on a long time if its a 2kw then there's a fault on your wall socket

Thanks deggers. The new one is 2000w. Is that 2KW? The first one I dont know, because I have taken it back.

Yes this is normal, however, I had mine plugged into an extension lead...once plugged into a normal wall socket it didnt seem to get as hot.

I would say your socket is at fault and is not making a good contact with the pins on the appliance plug. get a new socket fitted.
