Tumble dryers eat electricity !. There is no such thing as a low energy one they are all around 3 KW . I try not to use ours as it is so expensive to run.
There are some that have a sensor and automatically turn off when the washing is dry you do not waste power.
if your in a flat you've no choice EDDIE5
The cheapest to run are gas-powered ones (eg made by White Knight).
If you want electric ones, do you want condenser-type or vented?
You'll find that the cheapest to buy are the most expensive to run (Which? finding).
dont buy a condenser type they are crap ! get one when you can fit a stretch vent pipe to it that you hang out of a window to vent the moist air out of the room it's in
Why on earth would you advise someone to buy a conventional vented dryer when purchasing a condensing type costs less to run (for the same drying effect)?

As has been correctly identified by ginj above, the cheapest ones to buy (and that means vented types) are the most expensive to run, followed by condensing types, followed by heat pump types. The latter heat pumps dryers are the most expensive to buy (doubt if you can find one for less than £500) but the majority are 'A' rated for electricity consumption.

Now that's proper advice - not random unsubstantiated comment.
your entitled to your opinionated remark builder i have not found ours to cost a fortune to run it's got a sensor in it to cutdown power when in use . i
No, I can not.

Every one I've had has been a sock thief!

"dont buy a condenser type they are crap"

Now that's an unopinionated remark for you. Pots and kettles.
