Carpet Cleaner....?

I need to clean a carpet, like deep clean it.

I thought about getting someone in to do it, but it will be much easier if I could do it myself, when the kids are in bed.

B&Q do one for hire, but I wondered has anyone used these and are they any good?

The carpet is in good nick, but has two make-up stains (looks like bronzer) which won't come out with a 'normal' carpet foam cleaner.

Thanks :-)

One thing, it's worth going over it a couple of times with just plain water after the initial cleaning with the solution as the soap left in the carpet tends to hold onto new dirt so they get dirtier quicker.

Rug Dr is a very good machine, you can usually hire them quite cheaply, ive used them many times, excellent results every time.

No problem with deep stains then?
Bronzer....Is that fake tan that somehow got on the carpet? ;-)
I've had good results from hiring too. I have spilt every make-up imaginable on my bedroom carpet. An old-fashioned bar of soap gets everything off - way better than carpet cleaner.
Well it really depends what caused the stain! but good for deep cleaning, you can always go over it more than once if required for stubborn stains.

Carrust, that's exactly what it is! There also seems to be eyeliner/mascara on there, although I've no idea how I managed that :/
I know this sounds scabby, but when it didn't come out with regular carpet cleaner, I just covered it up with a sheepskin rug. Now I've moved my bedroom around, and no longer want the rug.

Prudie, I'm guessing if carpet cleaner didn't shift it, then a bar of Imperial Leather won't do much either :)

Ratter, I'll give B&Q a ring now. I've got the room cleared so would like to get this done today if poss.
I just didn't want to pay for a weeks hire if it wasn't going to make any difference to the stains.

"Well it really depends what caused the stain"

Make-up, fake tan, and me being clumsy!
That's where you're wrong though, I've removed foundation, kohl, lipstick, mineral powder etc etc by rubbing with soap and a sponge when Big D foam didn't even touch it!

Ohhh, OK. Well I'll definitely give that a try first then Prudie.

Thanks for that :-)

if its not a large stain. ive used vanish pre wash stain remover.

Right. Quick update re carpet stains.

Tried soap - no luck, unfortunately. There was a lot of foam, but the stain still remained.

Went to B&Q and hired out the Dr Rug. Blimmin hell, what a palaver that was! Thought my bank card would be enough, but needed to go back home and get a recent bill AND my passport!
Anyway, got it now until Friday, so I'll use it tomorrow.

Found another stain since I posted this. Not sure what it is, looks like black eyeliner, although I'm unsure as to how that would end up on the carpet?
Anyway, wish me luck... :-)

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.

MM. DO YOU APPLY YOUR MAKEUP LYING ON YOUR CARPET ? :)
I hired one from Morrisons at the weekend (Rug Doctor)

Very good. You would not believe the filth that's in our carpets. It was £35 including 2 litres of cleaning solution.
I've used Rug Doctor at my Dads house which gets shockingly filthy and it was brilliant. You'll want to vomit when you see how black the water is even from 'clean' carpet though.
One thing, it's worth going over it a couple of times with just plain water after the initial cleaning with the solution as the soap left in the carpet tends to hold onto new dirt so they get dirtier quicker.

Going to do it right now. Will let you know how I get on....
You'll be shocked at how much dirt there is.
I got ridiculously excited when I saw how well it was working. It was almost addictive.

The ID thing is stupid. I went to hire one a while ago and gave them a utility bill and driving licence but they wouldn't accept the licence as it had my old address so I had to go home and get my passport which has NO address on it, which they happily accepted. The logic behind that one fails me.
Did you get the upholstery hose as well?

If so, do your car seats. They come up a treat.

Oh my god. Its filth!!!!
I'm actually embarrassed by how black it is!! :-/

Hoppy, yes I have - though nothing Will get rid of that stain you left on the back seats...
