Multi Room Wireless Hi Fi

I'm doing some research for a friend. This is the wish list:
There is already a good stereo in the front room but we want to have speakers in the dining room, kitchen and outside.
We don't want cables everywhere, so it has to be wireless. The distance would be a maximum of 20 or 30 meters from the source. It's a fairly modern house, so no thick stone walls.
Finally, it would be nice if there were motion detectors so the music would 'follow' them if they went from the front room to the kitchen and switch off if the room was empty.
Any ideas as to what kit I should be looking for?
Although I wouldn't say money is no object, they do have what I think is a reasonable budget.

I think that your friend is looking at spending upwards of £500 (and more likely somewhere near £1,000) - for that kind of money I’d want to hear and see what such a system could do (when connected to my hi-fi).

You might find another company that is making a more flexible system, consisting of an RF sender unit together with multiple receivers that can be connected to active speakers of your choice (or an amp plus speakers).

I don’t think anyone will supply a system controlled by motion detectors.

Thank you Hymie, it's a good place to start. I agree that you would want to hear them first and the two preferred partners in Britain are both on-line shops.
It has given me some food for thought though.

Oh, and the infra red detector thing would probably cause as many problems as it solves. ;0)

Given the price of a wireless system, and the limitation on the use of preferred additional speakers – I would give serious consideration to running the required wiring alongside the house mains. With one additional amplifier capable of powering all the added speakers, which would be the cheapest option. Power volume control units are available that are wired directly in series with each speaker pair.

The total cost of my proposed system would be one power amp, speaker pairs with on/off volume control units for each room and the cost of a sparky running the speaker cable as required and terminating neatly.

Thanks for the replies, Hymie but I think I'll keep going down the wireless route. For the purposes we're looking for, super high definition is not really needed, just reasonable quality day to day music stuff.
I think aesthetics would feature high on the agenda, along with ease of use (I don't really need them phoning me every time they want to get the radio to play on the decking).
I'll keep digging, there has to be something out there...

Of course one advantage of the Marmitek system is that it is not fixed, your friend could buy a sender unit and one receiving pair of speakers - then add futher receiving speakers as and when required.

Thank you both for the links. Philips is a trusted make and the Rocketfish one looks intriguing, especially from a Classical music magazine.
I'll look closer at them tomorrow, just in from work and too tired to take in details at the moment.
