when I went to see a lady I used to work with she was getting in the washing, she made a cuppa then started ironing duvet covers, she said excuse me doing this, but I want to take these back to the shop later, turned out she had had them on the beds for a couple of months then decided to redecorate, so washed the covers with the intention of taking them back and changing them for a different colour, she says she often does that and always keeps the packaging and reciept, I watched her repack them expertly so she has obviously done it many times, I was horrified and told her so, she laughed at me, what do you think?

she redecorates her room often enough to change her duvet covers regularly?
I wouldn't have the gall but I guess it goes on a lot in this day and age. People don't seem to care as long as they get what they want, I think it's outrageous but that's just my opinion.
not nice, seeing someone else will buy them presumably. Besides which don't the stores check?
Would I do this? No I would not, I am not cheeky enough.
theres a piece in the express today about this 56% said they would return worn or used goods luckily noone took back worn underwear from the ones they polled
I worked in a department store for many years and nothing ever shocks me now. Things that people tried to return include- tins of used paint - skirts that had had the hem took up - all types of clothing that had been worn, even socks and underwear, some had been washed some not.
I can pack things like bedding and dress shirts but would never use them before returning them.
I wouldn't dream of it. I wouldn't think any amount of ironing would make a duvet appear unused to a shop either.
sorry just noticed this is chatterbank.
This ticks me off.
Shops don't have to refund or exchange goods in law unless they are not as described, faulty or not up to standard.

Shops have these return policies for good customer relations and when people take the pee it can spoil it for everyone.
I think this is disgusting. Years ago i remember asking in a shop for a black cardigan. They said they had to stop selling them as people were buying them just to wear for one day at a funeral, and then they return the cardigan the next day for a full refund, I couldnt believe it!
G,mum, just shows you what people are like nowadays, no scruples and sod the rest. Would never be done (knowingly) years ago but it seems to norm now to con and scam by some members of society who think it's their rights!
Can't find the word I'm looking for, but I think it's a form of theft.Got to admire their brass neck though.
No never. I cannot believe people would do this.

this woman has had several children, and I would say the redecorating is just one excuse, I think she gets fed up with things, and goes for a change just because she wants to, trouble is someone else is buying second hand goods at new prices.
No, I would never do it, think it's a terrible thing to do. Some people have no shame.
That's absolutely shocking. The fact she has several children is irrelevant. She must get her stuff from many different shops - in many you have to fill in a slip with your details when you return stuff, you'd think the store would cotton on. How horrible.
Mrs Chav who lives next door to me will often buy a dress, wear it for a night out and then return it the next day for a refund.

I wouldn't have the nerve
Never even thought of it!
Mrs O - I was about to say something along the same lines. It is well known in this err 'affluent part of Cheshire' (that doesn't include me by the way), that the rich wives will go to M&S on a Friday, buy all the posh dresses/outfits, wear them to their 'do' on Saturday and return them on the Monday with some weak excuse - and get away with it.
Even if I had the cheek/nerve to do it, I wouldn't as I'm far too lazy. I never iron duvet covers.

Jeez, even the thought of it's bringing me out in a hot sweat. :o)
