Will Oil Companies Buy Back Unsed Heating Oil?
3 Answers
We are in the process of moving out of our rented home (end of May 2013). We have about 850 litres of heating oil left in our tank. We need to leave approx 200 litres in the tank but our landlords dont want to buy the remaining oil from us. Does anyone know if an oil company will buy this back?

The companies will not buy the heating oil back for the following reasons:
1) They've no idea if it is contaminated, so would have to test it. That costs them hassle and hence money.
2) Running around to you with an empty oil tanker so they can put 650 litres into it to take back to the depot to test (see above) isn't something they would want to spend time letting their drivers do.
Try selling it on to the next tenant at a decent discount - it's your only bet. It's dead money to you.
