Our bush is looking a bit sad still - plenty buds, tiny tips of green, but not bursting out like other plants are. Its in a sheltered spot, should it be in the sun?

depends where you live and the type of soil its in, and if you have had rain or not, we have had a very dry and cold time and find that most things are a bit reluctant to grow, if the ground is dry try giving it a can of water, it will hopefully catch up when it gets some sun, ( if you remember what that is)
i checked our gooseberry bush yesterday and can see tiny tiny gooseberries forming- its in full sun though ( occasionally )
