Does anyone know how much per litre household water costs through a water meter please? We have just moved house and find to our horror that there's a water meter and have no idea who the water supplier is even. We are in Herefordshire so think it's probably Welsh Water but I still can't find a /per litre price on any of the water companies websites. We need to use 12,500 litres or thereabouts shortly so would like to know first how much per litre it is. Fanks very much:)

Thank you Eddie, I didn't know that. Do you know where I could get a list of how much water companies actually charge for it though?

Still for the swimming pool, sparkling for the hot tub:)
Somewhere between £1 and £2 per cubic meter so if you reckon on that, you can work it out.
i'm also with welsh water and i've just paid £54.08 this breaks down to meter rental=£16.29. 186 [email protected] per day & £37.79 for water= 29cubic metres@£1.3032 per metre-----1000litres per cubic metre.hope this is some help.
South West water charges £2.05 per cubic meter so your 12,500 liters (12.5 Cubic Meters) will cost just over £25 per year.

A meter is normally a lot cheaper than paying water rates which are based on the value of your house.
I have just got a water meter and I expect to save over 50% of what I was paying on the water rates.
you need to know who your supplier is and they have to give you the information
Here's the welsh water info

Oh wow that's so cheap, thank you all. I'll go and stop Mum having a heart attack now :)
Thank you all so much, I couldn't find it anywhere:)
Lol shari. Beware bubbles in a swimming pool!
Ours went down from £80 a month to about £30 when we had a meter fitted.
The Water Companies also calculate for disposing of the same amount.

If 12.5 cu. m. goes through your meter, they will assume that the same amount has passed through their sewer system; this has its own tariff.

the water that comes in is cheaper you pay about 92% on waste charges going out
I did not know that you get charged for a meter rental , our water company does not charge , the meter is free.
I think there must be two rates a dearer one if you do not pay for the meter. Most companies are very much the same @ £2 a Cubic meter and a free meter.
Hi,
Ours is anglian water, and the sewage is based on how much water you use, as they reckon the get 90% back as waste water. As it is a combined price, using the tap less, and not using a hose helps, but meters a horrid thing, frightened to have a bath now. just a quick shower. Use water butts for the plants, usre the kids paddling pool water for the plants as well, wasn't like this 30 years ago. i am told that the water companies are now owned by foreign companies, and we have the highest water rates in europe, and, when they bought us out, they sold lots of water resoivers ( spelling wrong) for building works. so we are stuffed again by non british.
Just do not go mad with a garden hose watering the garden, a hose and sprinkler can use a months worth of water an hour.
I once worked at a sports centre and the hockey club wanted to water the pitch , they put a hose on and left it for 48 hours constantly . We got a bill for 2,000 cubic meters !! (£4000 and the hockey club could not pay us back)
I am southern water and save hand over fist on my water bill now I have a meter, so does my friend who has two grown up sons who live in the shower.

And I'm an idiot, it's 12,500 US gallons which is 47.3 m3 isn't it? So @ say £2 per cubic meter it'll cost less than £100.

Thanks sorry I'm such an idiot and said ltrs:)
Since when did "metre" become "meter"?
Question Author
Depends where you are from but yes here it is metre, thank you for the correction:)
