Halogen Heaters

I have a rarely used room where I do not turn on the central heating. Was wondering if a halogen heater would be cost effective.

I have used one for two years now. I can't afford to use the central heating these days, apart from Xmas. I got mine on ebay for £12.99 including p+p. Its got three settings, 400w, 800w, and 1200w. I rarely use the 800w, so its very cheap to run. I don't think you can heat a room for less than the cost of running one of these things. Mine swivels as well.

Thanks Mikey. Not turned CH on yet, also wary of the bills. Even then will only heat living room and bathroom just before a bath. Thought I could move a portable halogen heater between bedroom and spare room as needed. Have small gas fire in living room I am using first thing and when sitting in the evening.

Since leaving full-time work I just can't afford to put the gas central heating on as I used to. Energy prices have gone up so much since privatisation. I have found out that I can manage quite well, with a combination of wearing warm clothing indoors and only heating one room.

I also bought one of those push-along gas heaters, which gives instant warmth and you can easily control your spending and not receive any nasty shocks every quarter !

On the moving around from room to room bit...be careful. These heaters can get quite hot, so moving them won't always be easy. They are cheap enough on ebay, so perhaps two would be more sensible. I should add that they have a safety cut-off, just case they are tipped over.

gas heaters (portable) create a lot of condensation you have to have the room well ventilated .halogen are ok for small rooms
