Nuaire Genie Fan - Further Problems!
4 Answers
Hello again
I asked about this fan in my bathroom (wetroom) last year as it runs at a trickle (very quiet) with the light off and switching on the light turns it up a notch for extra extraction - returning to a trickle when I turn off the bathroom light again.
I think it was 'The Builder' on this site who helped me then!
It works well for a few months then both the trickle and normal speeds increase so much it is too noisy to sleep even in trickle mode.
According to Nuaire there is no speed adjustment on the module which has to be changed. I know that they are still under guarantee, but this is the third I have had fitted!
My neighbour has a similar fan fitted (not same make, maybe Expelair) and it is whisper quiet.
Any further ideas anyone?
Because of my wetroom without windows it is a must to have this type of extractor, especially as my apartment is only 3 years old and otherwise built to a very high spec indeed.
Thanks a lot

It should be very quiet (typically less than 30 decibels) at tickover. The control module is likely faulty (again). I don't know if it's available separately, so either that or the whole unit will have to be replaced. I think Nuaire should be seriously interested in such a failure rate. Some of these are quite expensive items, and of course, each time, you have to pay someone to replace it as well.
Since you don't have a window, I think that, by now, I would have gone and found one to throw it out of ............ then begin again with possibly Expelair, or Ventaxia if they make one.

Just did some more searching and there is a post on http:// www.ele ctricia nsforum s.co.uk / which says that the Nuaire Genie X can't cope with low-energy bulbs.
So I changed the bulb in the bathroom to a conventional filament and presto! The Nuaire switches straight to trickle when the light is switched off.
Big design flaw!
