There are many plants found in gardens that are poisonous and children will be exposed to them sooner or later even if you don't grow any of them yourself. It is best just to educate children not to eat any part of garden or wild plants unless given the OK by an adult.
This question comes up from time to time, as gen2 says there are a lot of poisonous plants some of which you wouldn't expect. For example the last fatality I heard of was a man who ate wild daffodil bulbs thinking they were wild garlic - he had other medical problems as well. Rhubarb leaves can also be nasty
My kids are often making "potions" in the garden but they know they have to think that everything could be poisonous and they always wash their hands
